Welcome to my first article in English. I am Víctor Gallardo and you are not. – As once said by Chevy Chase –

Last week, I had a big surprise. I was coming home on the bus from my classes, when I was followed in Twitter by a Hawaiian record company named Blessed Sounds. Yeah from the antipodes.

After having a short conversation with Pono (singer) via DM, he sent me the website of his group named So Roots, and a couple of songs to work with.

As I haven’t finished my mobile internet, I had the pleasure of hearing both of the songs on the bus. To my surprise, the music was very interesting. They have managed to mix Roots (Reggae) with a little bit of their tipical music from the islands. It’s allways a plus.

So we have two songs that Pono said would be in their next album, which is being relased sometime this year.

Slow Down: Is made on the wave (music) that I like to call “New Roots”, which is based on the point that the riff, instead of being made by guitar, is made by keyboard. Talking about the musical quality, is undoubtedly good. It’s a well made song.

Shiku:

For what I found on the Internet, it’s a way of calling the number “5”. If it’s not, you are going to forgive me for my ignorance. If anyone knows, you can leave a comment and I will add it to the article 🙂 . This song continues on the “New Roots” wave, with an appropriate line of keyboard and another typical line taken from Hard Rock, but respecting the rhythm of the song.

Add: I went to the fast way and asked Pono directly. He said that “Shiku” is a diferent form to spell “She Is Cool.

They sound very good and knowing the little amount of material that they have on their web, I’m going to wait impaciently for the relase of their album.
